The Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, Mr Fatai Owoseni says no fewer than 65 policemen had been arrested for various offences in the past one month.
The arrests were made with the aid of the ‘Anti-Extortionist Squad’ in the command.
The Lagos police boss said the motion is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-general of Police on zero tolerance to corruption and unprofessional conduct within the command.
Owoseni said the squad arrested 33 people as of August 8, 12 persons more than that of August 24 and 20 on through September 8.
”Some of them have been encouraged for dismissal; a few to be demoted in ranks. the ones concerned in illegal killing were charged to court docket for homicide.
”A few others are undergoing departmental orderly room trials. There's no place for corrupt and unprofessional police in Lagos command,” he said.
As part of efforts to make sure that officials in Lagos maintain the ethics of the command, Owoseni stated that he embarked on re-orientation and retraining.
He stated that 75 constables had undergone training in gun-handling on the Ikeja Police college, in order to stop unintentional discharge.
He stated that each action of the officers and men would be accounted for, stressing that the second batch of such education might come up quickly.
