TRIBALISM

Hi friends, Today’s edition will focus on Tibalism.
TRIBALISM.
This problem affects both men and women in the society. like we talked about inter-tribal marriage yesterday, another topic closely related to this, is tribalism.
The problem of tribalism is that people of different tribes are separated from each other and are only truly connected with people of same beliefs, thereby preventing them from associating with other people.
The programme is city echoes and the station is Radio Nigeria, Treasure 98.5 fm, Port Harcourt the only station that fills you with pleasure without measure. My name is Rachel Onah, welcoming you on board!
It’s often said that tribal and religious intolerance are the nation’s greatest problems which have   succeeded in hindering peaceful coexistence and meaningful development over the years.
Tribe is seen as a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious or blood ties with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized   leader and which has brought about one of the problems of tribalism in our country. It has also led us to the streets of the Garden city, trying to find out how people cope with people from other tribes.

That takes us back to our topic for today which is tribalism. Talking about tribalism, tribalism is regarded as the state of being organized by, or advocating for tribes or tribal lifestyles. They can also be seen as a group who share a common lifestyle, habit and interest. It can be by means of related clan or extended kin. Most times they have a general interest that is common among them which is in their interest and belief in one ancestor.
Tribalism can be interpreted as superiority complex among specific ethnic groups which makes them judgmental towards other groups. Let’s take a trip to the streets of Garden city and find out how the people understand tribalism.
Sadly, this tribal and religious intolerance over the years has been fuelled to achieve their selfish interest which is one of the causes of tribalism where there is strong hostility between the Christians and muslims which has led to so many deaths.
Also,   constitutional reform plays a huge role on tribalism where the people are seen demanding a new constitution which will clearly define the rights of the citizens and their privileges by the place of residence and not place of origin, whereas the government is working in a way to compromise but it still causes ethnic conflicts among the people. More so, tribalism has negatively affected Nigeria’s unity which is life threatening because some people can go to any length just to protect their belief. So, join me to the streets of the Garden city let’s see different ways in which the people have been affected by tribalism, and what advice they have for people who practice tribalism.
Nevertheless, it will go a long a way to help in the development of our country if everyone begins to see the good and positive contributions to the future of one another instead of pointing out one another’s differences. If only we can show our strongest qualities and learn to get along with one another, regardless of their cultural, religious and social differences, Nigeria will become greater than it is, and of course, a better place to live in. United we stand, divided we fall.  May God help us. It’s on that note we come to the end of today’s edition of city echoes on Radio Nigeria, Treasure 98.5 fm, Port Harcourt. Many thanks to my studio manager Maxwell Brown and my IT student Ifunanya Nwosu for her contributions.  My name is Rachel Onah urging you to keep a date with us for a fresh edition of city echoes same time next week on Radio Nigeria, Treasure 98.5  fm, Port Harcourt.
