CITY ECHOES (Intertribal Marriage) 12-11-2018
People lately tend to embrace unity than division, and the
best and easiest way to achieve that is having a free intertribal marriage
where religious belief seems not to be a barrier.
Good morning and welcome to today’s edition of city echoes
which mirrors, ‘Intertribal marriage’ on Radio Nigeria, Treasure 98.5 Fm, Port
Harcourt. My name is Rachel Onah. Don’t touch the dial!
Talking about intertribal marriage; intertribal marriage is a
marriage between people from different tribes. Such marriage can take place
between people from different religion, race or ethnic group. Many people would
argue that, marriage is just an institution which validates reproduction but to
a good number of couples, finding the right partner and staying committed to
him or her is what matters most, and has helped them in taking their careers to
unimaginable heights. It has also helped them on their journey of self discovery;
hence people travel extra miles to get this mr or mrs Right regardless of the
religious and cultural backgrounds. Let us join Temitope Akinyemi to the
streets of Port Harcourt to find out some of the reasons people engage in
intertribal marriage:

Fear of the unknown is always an order of the day whenever a
new venture comes up, intertribal marriage inclusive. People say that intertribal
marriage has a lot of advantages, yet some are not scared of engaging in it,
why?

Statistics show that one of the commonest causes of failed
marriages is lack of understanding. This however, is a sure bet in intertribal
marriage owing to the differences in cultural and ethnic backgrounds. But then,
how can such conflicts be resolved?

If marriage is actually all about getting the right person to
fill the gap created by a missing rib, what advice do you have for young people who have found
their missing ribs in a different tribe?

Intertribal marriage is not as scary as some people think
after all. Join me to the office of a marriage counselor, Mrs Remi Togun as she
tells us all we need to know about intertribal marriage.
