Untold story of Nigerian man slaughtered in Togo
■ Body set on fire
How far can human beings go in dehumanizing their fellows? Is it a crime to love? is it a crime to settle down in another African country? Why are Nigerians always at the receiving end of violence in a foreign land? We've been hearing stories of Nigerians being discriminated against by their fellow Africans, in African countries. We heard the case of South Africans killing Nigerians living and doing business in their land some months ago, just because they were prospering in the land. This case you are about reading now, is the case of another violence against a Nigerian, living in and doing Business in another African country- Togo
When Mr Emmanuel Uchenna Udeh (otherwise known as Tootoo) moved from Aba, Abia State to Togo to work a few years ago, expectations were high. As the only male offspring of his parents, he had incredible trusts that he would do well there and fend for them.
The individuals who knew him said he was a persevering and easy going young man. Steadily, his carpet business became even as he began to look all starry eyed at a Togolese young lady. Furthermore, to exhibit his adoration for the woman, he opened a shop for her and filled it with products. At 32, marriage was at the forefront of his thoughts.
Notwithstanding, the bubble burst a month ago and Emmanuel's arrangements went up in smoke simply like his body.
For sure, for the Michael Udeh group of Ejighinandu town, Awka Etiti in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, these are not the best of times. Insidious destiny, similar to a frantic bull in a china shop, as of late assaulted the family in a lamentable way, pulverizing its extremely valuable possession. On June 30, 2016, the family was suffocated in the sea of anguish and distress. Emmanuel was killed that portentous day, in Togo.
More terrible still, Emmanuel passed on in a most dehumanizing way. He was slaughtered in the same way as the four University of Port Harcourt understudies in 2012. He was set ablaze alive professedly through the trick of his pregnant live-in girlfriend. He was stripped, exposed and clubbed to death before a group of people. At that point they hung a tyre on him and burnt him like a sacrificial lamb for their deities. His matured father is completely crushed while his sick mother has not been told because of her ill health as narrated by his cousin, Mr Chukwuka Ezenwaka.
Why he was executed
Emmanuel kicked the bucket because of love gone sour.
Read the eye witness account from Ezenwaka: "It happened that he impregnated a woman in Togo. As indicated by observers, he truly cherished the young lady and needed to marry her. Indeed, they were living together and he even opened a shop for her. Along the line, they had a bit of misunderstanding. You know, as a man, you should act or respond. However, rather than the woman arguing or asking, the squabble proceeded. In this way, he told the woman that she will leave and that he will go and pack the things in the shop. Rather than the woman requesting for a peaceful
settlement of the quarrel, she ganged up with her siblings and they laid trap for Emmanuel. They executed him by stoning and hitting him with clubs. Later they set him on fire. He was the only male child of his dad and had a half sister. His folks are really old and the mother can't walk any more.
"His body has been recovered and kept in a funeral home in Togo. Arrangements are being made to bring his remaining parts home. We are speaking to the Nigerian government to venture into the matter on the grounds that the way they are slaughtering Nigerians outside the nation is appalling. He didn't take or disregard the rules that everyone must follow. He just had issues with his sweetheart which is typical. Indeed, even married couples fight.
"They ganged up and assaulted the man in a foreign land. The Igbo people group in Togo is attempting to raise cash to pay the healing center bills so that the dead body can be recovered."
Another source said that the woman asserted she didn't have any idea about her siblings killing the man.
What do you think about this story? Do you think Nigerians should stop travelling abroad, especially to other African countries? What did this guy do wrong?
