IS DOMESTIC ABUSE MORE COMMON THAN WE THINK?

This question interests me so much because, in the past, we used to think domestic abuse does not happen in places like churches. We have discovered that so much domestic abuse is going on these days, especially among church leaders. Some owners of churches and big names in churches in Nigeria today, domestically abuse their spouses and still mount the pulpit to preach. There have been cases where some women got killed by their husbands, in the name of marriage.
Most times, most women who get married in some churches, actually endure domestic violence. There is the case of a young Nigerian girl called Mary. Mary got married in to her husband who was attending the same church with her, but as time went on, Mary discovered that this husband of her’s was violent. He gets angry at every little provocation until he started battering her, When Mary went to her mum. being a typical Nigerian Mum, her mum told her to endure that violence is a normal thing in marriages. The abuse continued, until Mary decided to move out of her husband’s house and start a new life. That was how Mary got delivered from that domestic abuse.
As someone in the media, I hear countless stories of domestic abuse and am suprised that it is happening every day.
