Herdsmen attack: Rape sufferers going through divorce in Enugu communities.

Indigenes of Eke, in Udi  region of Enugu state have expressed worry over the increasing  divorce cases in their area, sequel to assaults and rape of married ladies by  suspected herdsmen.
In a paper given to the commission of inquiry into the killing of humans in Nimbo , in  Uzo-uwani area, the president of the Eke town union, Mr. Anthony Enu, has described the situation as scandalous.
Enu explained that following the rape cases the guys have refused to just accept their better halves who had been defiled through herdsmen .
“The herdsmen are constantly raping our women and daughters infecting them with severe sicknesses thereby, inflicting oblique divorce in our communities.
“If my wife is messed up by  the herdsmen, why do I have to take her in? this can suggest that the infection the herdsmen put in her will affect me” he said.
He stated that groups within the vicinity had had their fair proportion of assault by way of the cattle breeders, including that no fewer than 10 individuals had died as a result.
Enu recounted how 3 residents of Ogui village, Messer’s Iloafonsi Ofokansi, Aniago Egbo and Josephat Maduweke were killed in cold blood by suspected herdsmen in 2002.
“One Mr. Isreal Eneje became operating on his farm along with his daughter when the livestock breeders took their animals to his farm. He protested and told them to go away and that they ended up killing him. They've killed lots of our people  and  we always report the matter to the police station at ninth Mile.
“The herdsmen at the moment are assuming to be landlords and have been harassing us. They need to go away from our communities in peace,” Enu stated.In the meantime, the Agu Umabor town Union in Nsukka part of the state has said that they were against the introduction of grazing reserves in their place.
Odoh appealed to the South East caucus in the National assembly to offer a block competition to the legitimization of any shape of grazing bill.
“They need to vacate our town due to the fact  that we don’t have enough farmland now not to talk of the one for grazing. The herdsmen have committed atrocities in our communities and it has been a difficult time for our people and we are appealing to the government rescue us from this threat,” he said.
He narrated to the tribunal how on may 10, 2016 one Nnabuike Odo, a business motor cyclist made a passing remark when he sighted them grazing on a farm.
“They shot at him however he became so lucky to get awaywith  their bullets. My people have deserted agriculture because of the herdsmen and we are helpless,” Odo stated.

Responding, the Chairman of the panel, Justice Chukwuma Eneh said that the commission could accommodate all proceedings and send same to the state government.
“we will accommodate your story in our report and see if the government will do some thing to help you,” Eneh said.
