1. Report has it that the federal troops on Monday killed seven Boko Haram terrorists, including a notorious leader of the group, Albani of Monguno. This is contained in a statement by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations. Usman also disclosed that the troops recovered several dangerous weapons during the operation.

There are reports that only the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Yakubu Dogara, met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in a
closed doors meeting to address the controversy surrounding the 2015
budget as the Senate President Bukola Saraki was not available for the
meeting. It was reported that the meeting lasted for about 30 minutes
inside the Villa.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Tuesday wept over the
attack on Ukpabi, Nimbo, in Uzo-Uwani local government area of the state
by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Ugwuanyi, who could not hold back his
tears during the visit to Ukpabi was in company of Enugu State
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nwodibo Ekechukwu, the GOC 82 Division,
Nigerian Army, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, as well as the Enugu
State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC. He
declared two days fasting over the incident.
4. The
Department of State Security, DSS, in Rivers State has arrested five
suspects allegedly behind the abduction and murder of a National Youth
Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr Sampson Worlu. The suspects reportedly
murdered the victim after receiving a ransom of N1.5 million. Report
claims they are currently facing charges at a magistrate court in Port
Harcourt.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated that the Boko Haram insurgent
group has been technically defeated as they can no longer claim any
territory. Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Education,
Adamu Adamu, made the assertion on Saturday during the 13th summit of
the Organisation of Islamic Countries in Istanbul, Turkey.

Following students’ protest against the university management, the
University of Ibadan (UI) was on Tuesday evening shutdown indefinitely
as the management ordered the students to vacate the campus with
immediate effect. The students’ protest followed an alleged
victimization of a student who took part in a recent protest by the
students as well as poor power and water supply in the school.
7. A
former Senior Special Assistant on Media to Bayelsa State Governor,
Henry Seriake Dickson, Abnedgo Don- Evarada has been arrested by
operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. He was
arrested on Monday in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State for allegedly
offering a bribe of N10million (Ten Million Naira) to the EFCC’s Zonal
Head in Port- Harcourt, Mr Ishaq Salihu.

Justice Ibrahim Buba of Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos,
Tuesday convicted twenty persons for illegal dealing and storage of
petroleum products. The convicts are Captain Daniel Lebile, Ala Ibanibo,
Wole Ajayi, Adesunloye Fani-Kayode, Michael Mgbanwa, Segun Ekundemi,
Johnson Mashebinu, Ndidi Benjamin, Bright Nwaezuoke, Blessing Omoviye
and Kayode Ireti. Others are Chuks Isiwepkweni, Friday Nchikpa, Peter
Bayo, Ubom Amos, Zuopamo Embiowei, Olabamerun Owolemi, Adams Husseini,
Ebisingha Timmy and Godwin Oputeh, MV Long Island and their companies
Afa Global Impex Services Limited and GFL Marine Service Limited.

Report has it that tension rose in Abuja on Tuesday as the National
Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh fell off a swivel chair. The
incident according to report occurred during the National Working
Committee meeting at the party’s secretariat. Consequently, Metuh has
been taken to National Hospital where he was placed on observation.
10.
Youth activist and Senior Special Assistant to Senate President, Senator
Bukola Saraki on Youth Matters, Mr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere was on Monday
arrested and detained by the Department of State Security DSS over his
alleged anti-government activity and his running battle with the
Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalong. A statement by his family confirmed
the development.
